2008 Summer Reading Program

Hooray!  We've set a new record for attendance at our Summer Reading Program!  The first session was held on Wednesday, June 11.  60 kids participated in the younger children's session, and 23 in the older children's session.

The themes this summer are Amazing Animals for the younger children and Go for the Gold in Reading for the older group.  Each group enjoyed hearing stories read by the Head Librarian, and ten children in each group won attendance drawing prizes from the Fabulous Treasure Box.

The younger group had two special visitors.  Bella and Charlie Martin, miniature
Dachschunds, enjoyed visiting, being petted, held, and running around the library with all of those kids!  (Who said you have to be quiet in the library??!!)

The older group formed teams, decided on team names, and made flags for their teams for the Brighton Memorial Public Library's own Olympic Games.

All of the participants learned that in order to be eligible to win some truly wonderful prizes on the last day of the summer reading program, they will have to read (or be read to) 15 books during the six week program.  They received a reading log sheet, which they will turn in at the library by July 16.
