It’s finally here! Last July, Illinois Heartland System, of which Brighton Memorial Library is a member, voted to merge four library systems into one, forming S.H.A.R.E., the country’s largest automated library system! Beginning April 9th, the entire system will be up and running on one software platform called Polaris. Over 400 libraries, spanning central and southern Illinois, will be united … allowing patrons access to ten million items and a new, easier to use online catalog!

You will notice some temporary changes in library service in the weeks leading up to the migration to the new software system.

Timeline of Events:

March 15 We will no longer be able to place holds on new items or request items from other libraries. You may want to print out a list of your requested items on your home computer or ask us to do it for you at the library.

March 22 All remaining unfilled holds will be cancelled. The holds cannot be transferred to the new software system (i.e., original positions on the ’holds’ list will not transfer). Once SHARE is up and running (April 9th), you may begin placing holds again.

March 30 The Patron ‘Reading History’ will no longer be available. If you had previously turned your Reading History ‘on’ and would like to have a copy, instructions for printing it out or exporting it via email are available at the Circulation Desk.

April 1—9 Libraries will be checking out only their own materials using an offline version of the new software. You must present your library card in order to check out anything, as we will be unable to search for your account by typing in your name. We will be unable to issue new cards during this period.

April 9th We’ll be up and running online with Polaris! The new and improved online catalog will be available. You may begin placing holds again.

We greatly appreciate your patience as we transfer to our new software system and look forward to improving our library and increasing our patrons’ access to millions of more items.
