Minutes from April 5, 2012

The meeting was called to order at 7:06 P.M. by library board president Carolyn Kelly. Board members present were: Meridel Buscher, Chris Dawdy, Elizabeth Harper, Carolyn Kelly, Amy Taul. Library Director Karen Sinks was also present. Sheila Wilkie was late; Ellen Brefeld was absent.

Minutes

A motion to approve the March 5, 2012 minutes was made by Meridel Buscher and seconded by Elizabeth Harper. Motion carried.

A motion to approve the special board meeting on March 12, 2012 was made by Chris Dawdy and seconded by Amy Taul. Motion carried.

Financial Reports

Note to check Cape Electric listing on the Village Account.

Motion to accept the March 2012 Village Library Account report was made by Chris Dawdy and seconded by Elizabeth Harper. Motion passed.

Librarians’ Report/ Library Director’s Report

Library director Sinks notes that all is going well. Motion to accept the March 2012 librarian’s report was made by Meridel Buscher and seconded by Amy Taul.

Review and Approval of Monthly Bills

Motion to pay bills from the Village Library account in the amount of $182.76 and from the Library Activity account in the amount of $1,849.12 for a total of $2,031.88 was made by Elizabeth Harper and seconded by Chris Dawdy. Motion carried.

Fundraisers

Kohl’s

• Will be held 4/14 at 2:30 p.m. Will plant flowers, clean garden area at Village Hall;

Wash awning, windows, etc.

Trustee Training – just a reminder to complete

Friends of the Library – Research and discuss later.

Building

• Karen talked to Dennis: new construction is out; still hope for existing building.
• Need information to write for grant: shore up basement, new 2/3 building, fix west wall, new roof, new AC/furnace, proof of ownership of building, plans from Joel.
• Discuss fundraising.
• Chris will talk with Wayne Schaeffer and Bob Watson.

New Business

LLSAP Merger – four Illinois Heartland library systems will merge into one making the largest automated consortia in the country.

Gatenet fees are projected to drop from $3,000/year to $1,000/year.

Circulation software will be web-based Polaris.

• Will decorate the municipal building 3/10/12 at 3 p.m.

Kohl’s

• Will be held 4/14. Must make a list of things that need to be done.

Illinois Library Association

• Signed up with the ILA to receive grant money.

Parking Lot

• Quote from CSR: 1 coat chip & oil, $4500.

• Library could be used as a drop off site for small technical items such as cell phones.

• Letter was received acknowledging that we will receive $2,311.48 in grant money.
